Homemade Soap

Artisan:  Louise Hawkins

High-quality ingredients are definitely important, but key elements to the perfect soap are timing and temperatures.  It is also important that it not cure too quickly.  Homemade soap does not bubble up like commercially-prepared bars; rather, the lather is creamy and smooth.

Specialty Soap

Some of Louise's recipes use essential oils that are very expensive.  For example, the price of patchouli oil increased over 400% in just two years!  Rather than bump up the price of all soap to cover the cost, she charges more only for the those that are more costly to make.

"I purchased some of your pet soap (Pet Shampoo Bar w/ Neem Oil) and I just wanted to tell you how much I like it. My dog has had a problem with itchy skin for months and months. I had been using an expensive pet shampoo but he was getting no relief. I also did not like the way it left his coat feeling dried out. Your soap makes his hair so soft- he is no longer scratching and licking- it is truly a God send.
